The Truth about Quotation Marks

Module Overview: Your final portfolio for ENGL 105 is worth 60% of your course grade.  Your portfolio will be evaluated by other members of the composition faculty. Visit the Composition Program page on Holistic Team Scoring for details on how your portfolio will be assessed.

Module Time Frame: Weeks 12 – 15

Writing Task – Final Portfolio: Your portfolio will consist of two final papers, each of which must cite multiple sources (including in-text parenthetical citations and a works cited) using MLA format. Students with late or incomplete portfolios cannot pass ENGL 105 and will not fulfill the first year writing requirement.

  • 2 selected papers for mandatory portfolio review  (Due Day Before Week 12 Class Meeting)
  • 2 polished portfolio papers  (Due Day Before Week 13 Class Meeting)
  • Final portfolio  (Due Day Before Week 15 Class Meeting)

Electronic Portfolio Instructions:

In the shared folder for our class labeled Final Portfolios, create a Google Doc for your final portfolio. Label the Google Doc as follows:

Portfolio # – Instructor Last Name – Class & Section # – Student ID #

File name example: #01 – Anderson – 105.04 – 1443457

I will assign numbers to each portfolio, working chronologically and alphabetically through each section, so you each have a unique #. This makes it easiest for other faculty to match portfolios with scoresheets.)

Portfolios should follow MLA format.. The one exception is that you should use your ID # in place of your name. The heading on each page should include your ID #, the page number, and the page count to make it a bit easier for the reader to know where he or she is in the document. (Page numbers and the page count can be added by using the Insert menu in Google Docs).

Header example: 1443457 1 of 10

Insert a page break between the first and second paper so that it easy to tell when the second paper begins. This is also available under the Insert menu on Google Docs.

Be sure to include a heading and title for each essay.

Complete a scoresheet, filling in your ID # and the class and section #. Make sure each scoresheet has your assigned portfolio # on it also in the upper right hand corner. I will pre-number scoresheets and then make sure that you get the number that corresponds with your portfolio.

Once final portfolios are processed on the last day of class, you will not be able to make additional changes to the document. I will make a copy of your Google Doc on the day portfolios are due, so the version that gets evaluated will not be the one you have the ability to edit.
