You will compose an annotated bibliography of at least nine substantial, credible sources that shed light on the issue or problem you are investigating in your Personal Inquiry Project. You will have at least three sources for each of the three disciplinary lenses through which you are examining your chosen topic.
Annotated bibliographies are incredibly useful for helping you identify and look closely at potential resources for any research project. Details on composing an annotated bibliography are available here. You can also view this PDF: Annotated Bibliographies- Purdue OWL.
Each of your nine entries in the annotated bibliography should follow the format that is exemplified in this sample. Organize your entries by discipline (labeling each section — Economics, Sociology, etc.). In each of these three sections, entries should be in alphabetical order.
A complete entry will include the citation for the source, formatted according to MLA Guidelines, and an annotation of three paragraphs. The first paragraph will summarize the source. The second paragraph will assess or evaluate the source. And the third will reflect on how the source might fit into your Personal Inquiry Project.
If you study the resources from the OWL at Purdue closely, you will find extensive information on how to complete each entry.
Your complete annotated bibliography, complete with nine properly cited and fully annotated entries, is due on your personal CI Keys cite before class next Tuesday. You will create a page for your Personal Inquiry Project that then links to the page for your Annotated Bibliography. (We will review this process in class.)
Please include a brief abstract of the problem/issue you are exploring and the three disciplinary lenses through which you will be investigating your topic.
Assessment: Successful annotated bibliographies will be thoughtful and thorough (containing all the required elements) and submitted by the due date. Remember that your bibliography should include nine entries that each contain the following:
- Citation (properly formatted in MLA Style)
- Annotation (three paragraphs total)
- Summary paragraph
- Assessment/evaluation paragraph
- Reflection paragraph
Again, entries should be organized by discipline (with labels for each section) and then alphabetically.
