Personal Inquiry VoiceThread Progress Report
- Go to CI Learn to access the VoiceThread and edit it to add your own slide, following the instructions posted below (and also available on the VoiceThread). Your progress report should be posted by Monday 2/15.
- Create a slide for your progress report. You will create the side in PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Keynote and save or print as a PDF. You will then upload the slide to our VoiceThread. Make sure your slide includes your name, your topic, bullet points of your main ideas, and a relevant image that is properly cited.
- The slide and your comments should cover what you have learned so far in your research, challenges you are facing or anticipate, and the research question you will try to answer in your essay. You should also include one question that you would to receive feedback on from your peers. This can be any aspect of your project that would like some help puzzling through.
- Once your slide is uploaded, you will record a Voice comment in which you share your progress with the class. Comments should be no longer than 3 minutes. It is a good idea to jot notes to keep your comment concise, focused, and engaging for your classmates.
- You will then comment on one another’s slides by Wednesday 2/17 (also using the Voice feature – not Video). You will comment on 4 slides. Comments should be 1-2 minutes in length and address what you took away from the presenter’s update as well as an answer to the question the presenter posed.
- Once comments are posted, you will have until Friday 2/19 to listen to all comments and share your response to your peer’s feedback (again using Voice, not Video). This final comment should be no more than 2 minutes in length and reflect on what your peer comments revealed to you about your own project.
Personal Inquiry Annotated Bibliography
- Your complete and final Annotated Bibliography is due on your CI Keys site (published on a Page, not Post) by Tuesday 2/16. Please email me the link to your page after it is published.
- Remember to include a brief abstract of the problem/issue you are exploring and the three disciplinary lenses through which you will be investigating your topic.
- Each of your nine entries in the annotated bibliography should follow the format that is exemplified in this sample. Organize your entries by discipline (labeling each section — Economics, Sociology, etc.). In each of these three sections, entries should be in alphabetical order.
- A complete entry will include the citation for the source, formatted according to MLA Guidelines, and an annotation of three paragraphs. The first paragraph will summarize the source. The second paragraph will assess or evaluate the source. And the third will reflect on how the source might fit into your Personal Inquiry Project.
- Successful annotated bibliographies will be thoughtful and thorough (containing all the required elements) and submitted by the due date.
- Remember that your bibliography should include nine entries that each contain the following:
- Citation (properly formatted in MLA Style)
- Annotation (three paragraphs total)
- Summary paragraph
- Assessment/evaluation paragraph
- Reflection paragraph
Integrative Blog & Reflective Vlog:
- Post Reflective Vlog Peer Comments #1 by Tuesday 2/16. Click here to access our Vlog on VoiceThread. Comments should be no longer than one minute in length and make reference to all previous comments.
- Post Integrative Blog Update #2 by Tuesday 2/16. For this and subsequent posts, you draw connections among the various academic and professional pursuits in which you are engaged, developing insights and perspectives that would not be available from a single field or disciplinary point of view. Your posts should include specific details, examples, and illustrations that convey how you are yoking together multiple disciplines/perspectives and what is revealed to you in that process. Each post should be about 500 words in length, include a creative title that captures the overall theme/dominant impression of that particular post, and integrate (and properly cite) a relevant image. You are writing to your classmates, so strive for readable, absorbing, and thought-proving prose and effective integration of your relevant image.
- Post Reflective Vlog Update #2 by next Tuesday 2/23. Click here to access our Vlog on VoiceThread. Updates should be no longer than two minutes in length. Make sure you listen to previous comments so that you may incorporate those in your latest update.
- Remember that Each Vlog (Video Log) update will allow you to tell the story about one experience in the previous week or two that exemplified some aspect of your evolution in this course. You can examine something you did well, something you found challenging but were able to overcome, or something that you think got the best of you. Either way, your Vlog should explore what you learned in the process (the “takeaway”).
- Post Integrative Blog Peer Comments #2 by next Tuesday 2/23. Provide feedback to at least 4 of your classmates on their own posts using the Comments feature in CI Keys. Comments will enable you to identify passages or details that you find noteworthy, intriguing, or thought-provoking in some way.Each comment should be about 25 words in length.

- Watch They Say / I Say Presentations #1 and #2 by Tuesday 2/16. Complete this form after viewing each presentation.

Personal Inquiry Essay
- Compose a 1500-2000 word draft of your Personal Inquiry Essay. Publish this draft as a new Page on your CI Keys site. Your draft is due before class next Tuesday 2/23.
- Your draft should integrate sources in MLA format (meaning that you’ll have in text parenthetical citations for any information from another source that is quoted or paraphrased in your essay). At the end of your draft, compose a Works Cited for any material you cite in your paper.
- Your Works Cited, unlike your Annotated Bibliography, will only include sources you actually use in your essay. While you do not need to use all the sources that were in your Annotated Bibliography, you should include a variety from across the various disciplines you investigated.
- The goal of this essay is to share what you have learned by exploring your problem/issue through the various disciplinary lenses you investigated. What potential solutions presented themselves as you examined your topic through this interdisciplinary approach?
- Successful essays will convey a thoughtful, thorough exploration of the topic; integrate rich details and examples/illustrations, including those from research; and effectively incorporate (and cite) relevant images.
- We will review your draft next week in class and you will receive suggestions for revision.
